Gay and Kathleen Byrne to be Honoured at Curragh

The Curragh is to honour Gay Byrne this Saturday 23rd August.

The legendary broadcaster and his wife Kathleen are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary this year and the Gay and Kathleen Byrne Celebrating 50 Years of Marriage Handicap will be part of an exciting seven race programme at the County Kildare venue.

Evan Arkwright Commercial Manager of the Curragh Racecourse commented “Gay and Kathleen have been very enthusiastic supporters of the Curragh over the years and we thought it would be a good idea to give them a special day out with their family.”

Gay and Kathleen will present the trophy to the winning owner of the race which is scheduled for 3.45pm.

Racing takes place at the Curragh on both this Saturday and Sunday with a number of races linked to Irish Champions Weekend with Saturday featuring the Group 3 Renaissance Stakes and the Galileo Futurity Stakes, Debutante Stakes, Kilfrush Stud Royal Whip Stakes and Palmerstown House Estate Irish St Leger Trial on Sunday

1st race Sat 2pm;   Sun 2.25pm.   Admission 15 euro, Under 25s and Seniors 8 euro, Under 16s free

Free car parking. Irish Rail service to Kildare Town with free shuttle to racecourse. Dublin Coach also provide race day service (see www.dublincoach.ie)
