British trainers target Paddy Power Scurry on Irish Derby Day

The ultra competitive Paddy Power Scurry has attracted 51 preliminary entries.

THE ultra competitive Paddy Power Scurry, which takes place on Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby Day at the Curragh on Saturday, 28th June, has attracted 51 preliminary entries. Overseas interest has always been very strong in this six furlongs and 63 yards dash and that trend appears likely to continue this year with 18 British-trained horses among the entries.

Burn The Boats and Whozthecat had a great tussle in this event 12 months ago before the former came out on top by three quarters of a length and both horses are entered to run again. Apart from Whozthecat, the British entry is strong with Baccarat, Green Door, Line Of Reason, Mississippi (sixth in the race last year) and Ninjago all likely to be to the fore in the betting market. Among the home team are Alkasser, Bush Pilot, Sailors Swan, Gathering Power and Great Minds.

Paddy Power: 9 Great Minds, 12 Burn The Boats, Extortionist, Alkaaser, Fly To The Moon, Masai, 14 Aetna, Baccarat, Shipyard, Cape Of Approval, 16 Barkston Ash, Alben Star, Blaine, Wind Inher Sleeves, Bush Pilot, Dashwood, Discussiontofollow, Duke Cosimo, Earth Drummer, Gathering Power, Great White Eagle, Green Door, Ninjago, Sailors Swan, Watchable, 20 An Saighdiur, Zalty, Arctic, Bubbly Bellini, Flyman, Fountain Of Youth, Greek Canyon, Intensical, Kernoff, Mississippi, Oasis Town, Pearl Earing, Seanie, Seas Of Wells, Srucahan, Twenty One Choice, Yeeoow, Yulong Baoju, 25 Captain Ramius, Harry Trotter, Antiquus, Line Of Reason, Whozthecat, 33 Arbitrageur, Grey Danube, Maremmadiavola

Meanwhile, Epsom Derby first and second, Australia and Kingston Hill, are still on course for a rematch in the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby on the same afternoon. Aidan O’Brien, who is responsible for 24 of the 50 entries after forfeits, is keen to run his stable star, but has warned that the son of Galileo “would not be risked if the ground was to come up testing.” O’Brien’s other entries include Adelaide, Geoffrey Chaucer, Kingfisher, Orchestra, War Command and Table Rock.

The Group One Pretty Polly Stakes is the Curragh highlight on Sunday, 29th June and there are some star-studded fillies and mares among the 38 entries, including Sky Lantern, Dank, Ambivalent, Thistle Bird, Just The Judge, Secret Gesture and The Fugue from Britain. Included among the home team are Marvellous, My Titania, Dazzling, Palace, Tarfasha, Vote Often and Along Came Casey.
