Historic Indianapolis Racer to run at Carole Nash Classic

First ever running in Ireland of Jackie Stewart's 1967 Indianapolis 500 Lola T92.

One of the highlights of the 2013 Carole Nash Classic Car & Motorcycle Show at Mondello Park was the demonstration laps by circuit owner Martin Birrane's LeMans Porsche 962. The laps by the car, from Mr. Birrane's impressive Race Car collection, housed in the circuit's Motorsport Museum, proved so popular that another famous machine will be given an airing during this years show.

The 2014 Carole Nash Classic Car & Motorcycle Live Show takes place on Sunday June 22nd at Mondello Park and is a wonderful mix of Show Cars & Motorcycles, Classic Racing, Parades and Demonstration Runs, with something to please all classic motoring fans.

This season among the highlights will be the first ever running in Ireland of Jackie Stewart's 1967 Indianapolis 500 Lola T92. This car is one of the first rear engined race cars to run at the Indy 500 and was part of the British invasion of the brickyard, which spelled the end for the previously dominant front engined American roadsters.

The car which was also known as the T90 MK2 was a development of the T90 which had won the 1966 Indy 500 in the hands of Graham Hill. Stewart had numerous problems with the car in '67 including an issue in qualifying which meant he had to qualify his spare car. In the race Stewart ran strongly until Lap 168 when he retired due to engine failure but was till classified 18th. The sister car of Al Unser finished second.

This famous racer is now owned by Martin Birrane and has been in residence for the last couple of years in the Mondello Park Museum of Motorsport, which is open to the public free of charge during Classic Live. The car has previously been demonstrated at historic events, including Goodwood, but June 22nd will be the first time such a car has been seen, and heard, in action in Ireland.

Along with the Lola demonstration, the 2014 Carole Nash Classic Car & Motorcycle Live show will also feature the largest ever gathering of Irish built Road and Race cars, Classic Car and Motorcycle Racing, Classic vehicle clubs, an Autojumble and an extensive trade area.

All Classic Car & Motorcycle owners are welcome at the show, with owners of Irish built or assembled cars particularly welcome this year. All exhibitor enquiries should be directed to Mondello Park on 045-860200. Further information including how to get tickets to the event can be found at www.mondellopark.ie/classic.
