Magician the Star Attraction at the Curragh, Bank Holiday Monday

The Newbridge Parishes Race Day at the Curragh has proved a huge success since its inception 29 years ago.

The 2014 renewal at Headquarters on Bank Holiday Monday, 5th May is sure to continue the trend. The Group Three Canford Cliffs EBF Athasi Stakes and the Group Three High Chaparral EBF Mooresbridge Stakes are the twin features, while the Listed Power EBF Tetrarch Stakes puts further gloss on a fabulous eight race programme.

Magician is one of eight entries for the High Chaparral EBF Mooresbridge Stakes and the son of Galileo, winner of the Tattersalls Irish 2000 Guineas and the Breeders Cup Turf last season, is reported to be in good shape and on course for Monday’s contest according to his trainer Aidan O’Brien, who landed this prize 12 months ago with Camelot. “Magician has come on a good deal from his first run of the season in Dubai (sixth behind Gentildonna in the Sheema Classic) and has been working well,” said Aidan O’Brien today. “We also have Hall Of Mirrors in the race and he may take his chance too.”

Jim Bolger is responsible four of the eight entries here and included among them is Parish Hall. “Parish Hall is in good form but he is ground dependent as are my other three entries Leitir Mor, Lough Garman and Paene Magnus,” commented trainer Jim Bolger today. “We will wait and see what the weather does before making a decision.”

My Titania and Balansiya, who both hold entries in next Sunday’s Newmarket 1,000 Guineas are among the 20 entries for the Group Three Canford Cliffs EBF Athasi Stakes. Other notable entries here are Wannabe Better, Chicago Girl, Flying Jib, Harrys Princess and Tested.

Focus On Venice looked a nice horse in the making when landing a decent handicap in great style at Cork earlier this month. The son of Intense Focus will bid to follow up in the Listed Power EBF Tetrarch Stakes according to his trainer Jim Bolger. “He has come out of the Cork race in great shape and deserves his chance in a higher grade,” remarked Bolger. Seventeen horses have been entered for this seven furlong contest featuring four from Aidan O’Brien’s team including Great White Eagle, who commented “ I will definitely have three runners in the race and a final decision on which three will run will be taken nearer the time.”  Other notable entries include Big Time, Hidden Oasis, Mustajeeb, Shining Emerald and Soft Power.
