'Champion of Mondello' brings back Formula Ford

Mondello Park has announced further details of its new for 2014, 'Champion of Mondello' Formula Ford Series.

The Championship, which will be promoted by the circuit alongside the existing Irish Championship, is designed to bring the still highly popular Formula Ford's back to Mondello Park on a more regular basis.

The re-introduced single seater class will run at four Mondello Park events during 2014. Two of these events will count towards both the Champion of Mondello Series and the Irish Championship, while the March & August events will be Champion of Mondello rounds only. All events will be double headers and the March and August events will also boast double points to make them even more attractive to competitors.

To further encourage competitors to tackle the series a fantastic championship package has been put together which includes reduced entry fees and live streaming of the Sunday races on Mondello.TV. The overall championship winner will receive a Brands Hatch Formula Ford Festival prize package. The prize will be made up of a free event entry, free ferry travel, a pre-event test day and a set of Avon Tyres. All class championship winners will also receive a voucher for a test day and race entry, worth €450, to be used during 2015.

The new 'Champion of Mondello' calendar will kick off on March 16th and will run on both the National and International Track variations. A Formula Ford Festival style event will run at the June meeting and this will be named the 'Vivion Daly Trophy' in memory of one of Ireland's most successful Formula Ford racers. The exact format for the event is nearing agreement and with a €1,000 prize already committed by circuit owner Martin Birrane, the event is expected to capture the imagination of competitors. Full details will be announced shortly.

Interest in the new series is running high, assisted by a taster day in late 2013, where a number of new drivers had their first experience of a Formula Ford. Some of these drivers have now committed to the series and will be joined by many of the Irish Championship regulars and additional drivers returning to the series.

Further information on the 'Champion of Mondello' will be available as the season progresses on www.mondellopark.ie or the circuit’s facebook page.
