Volunteers Needed In Athy

Volunteers Needed In Athy

Care and Repair Service.

County Kildare LEADER Partnership and Age Action Ireland have agreed to establish a Care and Repair project in Athy.

Volunteers are urgently needed to help do small household maintenance and repair jobs in the homes of older people in Athy who cannot do these jobs themselves.

The Care and Repair programme is run by Age Action, Ireland’s leading charity for older people. The main aim of the programme is to assist older people to carry out necessary small repairs and improvements to their homes, enabling them to live independently in the community in increased comfort and safety.

The most common services required by older people are: minor gardening (e.g. trimming small hedges); changing light bulbs; installing security locks and chains; hanging curtains; minor home decorating (e.g.hanging pictures) and installing domestic smoke alarms. Volunteers will be matched to jobs that suit their skills.

We are seeking volunteers with a reasonable level of DIY or household skills and an interest in helping older people in the community.

The time commitment required is not large; in general we would hope that you can take part in at least one job (maximum two hours) a fortnight. You should have a positive, caring attitude, a little spare time and the ability to help older people with small tasks around the home. We will provide training, insurance and an induction. All volunteers are Garda vetted and carry official Age Action ID Cards.

If you are interested in volunteering for this very worthwhile programme, please contact: Brian Byrne: 086-8360908.

Information Evening on Monday 22nd July 2013 in Athy Community Arts Centre Woodstock Street at 7.30pm.
