Athy Museum receives Lottery 'Good Causes' funding

Athy Museum has received a €10,000 funding award as part of the National Lottery’s Good Cause of the Year scheme announced last week.  

The Museum has exciting redevelopment plans following the relocation of the town library to the former Dominican Church building.  

Athy host the world’s only permanent exhibition celebrating the polar exploration of Kilkea native Ernest Shackleton. The museum has also acquired Shackleton’s ‘The Quest’ ship cabin and hopes to  have the artefact on display in Athy following the redevelopment of the museum. 

As part of the Lottery’s national awards, Athy now competes for potential additional funding in the amount of €25,000 with an announcement to made in early November.
