Naas is getting all dressed up for Christmas
This year Naas will be all dressed up for Christmas, but not just with twinkling lights and the usual festive fare! This year Naas Town Council unveils the most exciting Christmas programme ever staged in the town. Naas will sparkle among the top towns in Ireland this year bringing the magic of Christmas and a winter wonderland for the festive season with The Festival of Light to turn on the lights with Santa Claus and special guests on November 17th, the colourful and festive Christmas markets, the enchanting live crib in the grounds of Our Lady's & St David's Church Sallins Road on 22nd & 23rd December, live music on the streets every weekend with a guest performance from Boy band Level 5 on December 15th. Extra trading hours, the big Christmas draw and exclusive in-store promotions take place in the shops with special parking arrangements, colourful window displays and festive cheer is sure to help the festive spirits soar.
On Saturday (November 17th) the traditional Tree lighting ceremony in Naas becomes the Festival of Light with vibrant themed Parades of Light from local schools. The Festival of Light in Naas will sparkle and shine as over 200 children take part in the spectacle to officially launch Christmas in Naas. Santa Claus will also make a special guest appearance with Naas Fire Brigade to see who is being naughty and nice! The town will be illuminated as the Parades of Light depart from the main church car park and the Fair Green and make their way up to the steps of the Town Hall and a child from each school will symbolically hand Mayor Callaghan a lantern to light the big Christmas tree and officially announce the beginning of Christmas in Naas. The parades will be led by costumed characters from the Moat Theatre followed by a sea of beautiful handmade lanterns carried by children from each of the local school.
The Naas Christmas Market opens also on November 17th with an eclectic mix of festive fare at Naas Courthouse Plaza. The market opens at 10am until 5.30pm every Saturday and offers a feast for the festive senses with delicious crêpes, candyfloss, homemade chocolates, baked goods and gourmet delights to whet the appetite whilst the Christmas crafts, candles, frames, lanterns, cashmere and pearls, flowers and granite centrepieces make great Christmas gifts.
Music will fill the air every Saturday from 4pm to 5pm with carols and performances from the many excellent groups in the town including the Moat Club on November 17th at the Town Hall from 4pm to 5pm, Nás na Ríogh Singers on 24th of November from 4pm to 5pm, The Local Authorities Choir on 1st December from 4pm to 5pm and Mona Conroy’s Children’s group on the 8th of December from 12.45pm to 13.45pm.
On December 15th at 2.30pm there will be a special guest performance in Naas from newest Boyband Level 5 just after releasing their Christmas Single with Mary Byrne and their performance at the Child line concert at the O2. The Gospel Choir will perform also on December 15th at the Town Hall from 4pm to 5pm and finally on December 22nd there will be a performance at the Naas Community Church from 4pm to 5pm. A Live Crib in the grounds of Our Lady's & St David's Church Sallins Road on 22nd & 23rd December will be an extra special treat this year for families and the Church Choir will perform on the Saturday afternoon at 4.00pm.
Naas has always been known nationwide as a destination town for shopping and a centre of excellence for retail, dining, entertainment and hospitality. With 36 boutiques offering unique pieces at great prices, a wide variety of cafes and restaurants with worldwide culinary influences, award winning pubs and Hotels and a plethora of all sorts of shops in and around the town from super-stores to small gift shops. This year the Naas shops are extending their opening hours and will open late on Thursday and Friday until 8pm and all day Sunday until 5.30pm throughout December. On December 23rd the big Christmas Draw will take place with €4000 worth of vouchers. Exclusive in-store promotions in the shops with special parking arrangements, colourful window displays and Christmas cheer is sure to help the festive spirit soar!
