Start Date: 28 January 2012Classic Director Series: Kildare Libraries celebrate Maverick Directors and their seminal works
Wayne Byrne is a film critic who has been writing about cinema for several years, having reviewed films and interviewed filmmakers for Kildare newspaper Leinster Leader as well as Click film magazine and entertainment website FrankTheMonkey.com. He has previously lectured on the history of American Cinema and is currently working on his first full-length book.
The Classic Director Series is a celebration of the work of some of the most revered yet controversial of Hollywood filmmakers, ranging from the 1950’s Master of Melodrama, Douglas Sirk, to the 1980’s Master of Suspense, Brian De Palma. Here we will be screening some of the best films of the careers of five of the greatest maverick directors, followed by a lecture and workshop which will celebrate the highs and lows of the respective director’s career and their place within the history of the American film industry. Members will receive notes to take home at each screening.
The series continues on Tuesday 28th February 6.30 – 8.30pm with a fillm directed by William Friedkin followed by a workshop with Wayne on Tuesday 6th March.
