FÁS eLearning in the libraryPosted Date: 9 November 2011
The FÁS eLearning at the Library is a joint project between FÁS, the Library Council of Ireland and Kildare County Library service. The aim of the programme is to equip the learner with the knowledge and basic concepts of information technology and the skills and competence required to operate a computer.
The programme is 32 hours in duration, delivered over a 16 week period with one 2 hour workshop each week.
Self Directed Learning and Resources – (Know IT)
A Know IT CD-Rom and Workbook will be issued to each participant by FÁS and will support the learner throughout the Programme. This resource is designed for people who wish to take their first steps in learning about computers. It concentrates on practical tasks such as sending and receiving email, simple word processing and using the internet to find information. Know IT is specially developed for people with no previous computer skills and contains a unit on computer basics and tutorials on mouse and keyboard skills.
This programme offers a FETAC Minor Award at Level 3 in Computer Literacy.
To Register your Interest in the Programme
Anyone who is a FÁS client can register for the programme through their local FÁS office. All other interested parties (over the age of 18) complete and return a registration form available at participating libraries. (Athy, Celbridge, Kildare, Leixlip, Maynooth, Naas and Newbridge)
You will be contacted by the workshop facilitator when a training place becomes available. When a learner starts on the programme, libraries request that the person becomes a library member, if they are not already. This will give the learner access to the available library services and can be discussed with library staff.
Please note that programmes will start based on client demand, continuity of the project and availability of funding.
