FAS eLearning at the Library Project nominated for AONTAS Star AwardsPosted Date: 25 January 2012
The FÁS eLearning at the Library programme, which is a joint project between FÁS, the Library Council of Ireland and Kildare County Library Service, has been shortlisted for the nationwide category of the AONTAS Star Awards, 2011. The aim of the programme is to equip the learner with the knowledge and basic concepts of information technology and the skills and competence required to operate a computer. There are no entry requirements, no allowances paid and no charge to participants.
The programme is suitable for people with little or no IT skills, people with some IT skills who wish to improve and people with IT skills who wish to learn online on their own (with access to facilitation) at the library. This is a continuous intake programme.
A facilitator will be present at the library to assist participants familiarise themselves in using a computer and to support their progress through a suite of online courseware hosted on a dedicated website. The learner can choose from a list of available courses to continue the learning process. Learners will have access to the facilitator, while working on their own initiative.
