Sierra LMS - Phase Two

Posted Date: 7 July 2016

In June 2015 Kildare County Library Service went live in Phase One of a new national library computerised system - Sierra.   This month, July 2016, we will be joined by 11 more library authorities in Phase Two of the Sierra implementation.

All public library authorities in Ireland will gradually move onto the new shared system by 2017, which will allow standardisation of library service, i.e. all patrons will be able to borrow 12 items, fines will be at a rate of 30c per week or part thereof, common loan periods and free membership for all patrons.

The benefits of this system include:

  • shared national catalogue
  • universal membership card - patrons in the future will be able to use their card in any participating public library*
  • free membership for all patrons
  • standardisation of library services
  • inter library authority lending
  • user friendly patron interface

We apologise for any disruption to normal service and any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your patience as we complete the installation of this new system.

* Kildare and Wexford will be joined by Clare, Donegal, Galway, Kerry, Limerick, Louth, Mayo, Meath, Tipperary, Waterford, Wicklow library authorities.
