Film Club: Classic Director Series

A new film club celebrating the work of some of the most revered yet controversial of Hollywood filmmakers, ranging from the 1950’s Master of Melodrama, Douglas Sirk, to the 1980’s Master

of Suspense, Brian de Palma. We will be screening some of the best films of the careers of the five greatest maverick directors one week, followed by a lecture and workshop the following week hosted by film critic Wayne Byrne. The workshop will examine the highs and lows of the respective director’s career and their place within the history of the American film industry.

Wayne Byrne is a film critic who has been writing about cinema for several years.He has previously lectured on the history of American Cinema and is currently working on his first full-length book.
The club begins in Jan/Feb, is open to anyone over 18 years and is free of charge. For further information contact participating libraries – Celbridge, Maynooth, Leixlip and Newbridge.

Know IT with FÁS eLearning

A free computer literacy course starting soon in your local library. The aim of the programme is to equip the learner who has no previous computer skills with the knowledge and basic concepts of information technology and the skill and the competence required to operate a computer. This programme offers a FETAC Minor Award at Level 3 in Computer Literacy.

The course is available to everyone over 18 years. The programme is 32 hours in duration, delivered over a 16 week period with one 2 hour workshop each week.

Anyone who is a FÁS client can register through their local FÁS office. All other interested parties can complete and return a registration form at participating libraries- Athy, Celbridge, Kildare, Leixlip, Maynooth, Newbridge & Naas

Can I Play Too?

A Demonstration of Toys from the Toys Technology and Training Catalogues . Guest Speaker: Dorothy Armstrong, Occupational Therapist who lectures in Occupational Therapy in NUI Galway.

Dorothy will be giving a talk on the importance of play for the development of children with special needs and will be demonstrating the innovative Toys, Technology and Training project. This is a free service that allows parents and teachers to borrow toys and technology specially designed for children with special needs through their local library in Kildare.

Aontas Adult Learners’ Festival

Knitting Workshops – “Knit a Magic Beanie Hat”
