Taoiseach Officially Opens Leixlip Library

An Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern T.D. officially opened Leixlip Community Library on Friday, April 20th at 2.00pm 

Leixlip Community Library officially opened on  Friday, April 20th at 2pm by An Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern T.D.

 An Taoiseach, Mr Ahern,  spoke of the importance of the library service to the local community, as a way of ensuring both adults and children develop a joy for learning and discovery. He also stated

 “It is heartening to learn that the services now being provided here were shaped by direct consultation with the community on the street.  We can see how the needs and aspirations of all sections of that community are mirrored in the broad range of services available. The result is a new library building with a floor area of 880 square metres, providing a flexible library service with a welcoming atmosphere and a host of services.” 

Cllr. Fionnuala Dukes, Mayor of Kildare, Michael Malone, County Manager and Trevor Holmes, Intel also spoke at the opening.

At 930 square metres, Leixlip Library provides a range of spaces for the local community. Spaces include a multipurpose space, childrens’ library, Young Adult Library, Adult Library, Study/Research Area with laptops provided and a Public Internet Access Area  with Wi-Fi throughout the building

There is also a suite of 3 Music Rooms also suitable for community meetings and a Musician-in Residence Programme

Total uses of the Internet facilities = 6, 869
Total number of attendances at library events and programmes to date just over 7,000
