The Bonesetter's Daughter
I really enjoyed this novel. Amy Tan, the author, comfortably combines the story of Ruth and her mother LuLing. Ruth is a modern day woman with the pressures of work, a step-family, relationship issues and an elderly mother!!
The influence LuLing's past has on their lives is for reaching. She came from China just after the Second World War. The China of LuLing's youth is a forgotten time of superstition, hard work and harsh conditions. This China is brought to life for us and Lu Ling's mother is a huge presence, who makes the ultimate sacrifice for her daugher's happiness. The mother/daughter theme is kept from one generation to the next and their stories and lives stay in the mind.
I would recommend this as a very good read!!
