This year marks the 15th anniversary of our twinning with Bressuire and to mark the occasion we are sending a delegaton to Bressuire from 13th to 16th May. The group will comprise musicians and dancers from Leixilp branch of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann, members of the twinning committee, the Cathaoirleach of Leixlip Town Council and anyone else who would like to join us.
If you are interested in coming, please contact Mary Foley as soon as possible, as flights are cheap at present! (Flying Ryanair to Tours). A subsidy will be given to each participant towards travel costs. Accommodation is with host families. Mary's phone number is 086 3260486

Nearly 5 years after leaving France on 20th April 2006, Bressuire native Guillaume Miot (31) arrived in Ireland recently having cycled around the world on his own. The purpose of this great adventure was to appreciate the natural richness of our planet and to highlight ways to protect the environment and promote sustainable commerce and agriculture. Guillaume did this by talking to young people along the way and spending time with them teaching them about nature and the environment.
Since departing from France, Guillaume has cycled through Spain, Africa, India, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Indonesia, Australia, New Zealand and South America, visiting many communities along the way. He is currently in Galway where a group of school children from Leixlip's twin town of Bressuire, has joined him.
Guillaume will be arriving in Leixlip on or around the 18th February and the Town Twinning Association will host a reception for him on Tuesday 22nd February at 8.45pm in Newtown House, Captain's Hill where he will also meet members of Leixlip Town COuncil.
Anyone interested in hearing about Guillaume's travels can come along that evening. As the schools will be on mid term break that week, it will be hard for him to meet young people unless he can visit some clubs or groups. We would love to hear from you if you would like to have him talk to your club any time during the week from 19th February. Phone Mary FOley 086 3260486 to make arrangements.
AGM 2011

Twinning is all about bringing people together and developing partnerships between towns of other nations. It creates opportunities for citizens of member towns to experience and explore other cultures. It creates an atmosphere for economic development and trade opportunities. It stimulates an environment in which problems can be resolved on a person to person basis and breaks down cultural and social barriers. We can see how important this is in our own country and in Europe in particular but it applies on a world wide basis also.
On a practical level twinned towns can get Chambers of Commerce to link and develop exchanges, summer jobs schemes, economic seminars, internships. Websites can be linked, art and cultural exhibits can be arranged, summer camps can be set up, local government exchanges can be facilitated, senior citizens groups can get together, sporting events can be organised. Really as long as there are people with ideas the list is endless. Twinning is for everyone both young and old!
Leixlip is twinned with Bressuire, France since 1996 and with Niles, Illinois since 1999. You can link to their websites from here and read our newsletters for information on our activities.
