Notice of Proposed Development by Local Authority

 

PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT ACT 2000 (AS AMENDED)

PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT REGULATIONS 2001 (AS AMENDED)

 

Proposed Environmental Improvement Works to the front of Emily Square, Athy, Co. Kildare

 

In accordance with Part 8, Article 81 of the Planning and Development Regulations 2001 (as amended), Kildare County Council hereby gives notice of a proposal to develop as follows:-

 

Proposed environmental improvement works to the front (c.0.22 Ha) of Emily Square, Athy, comprising:

  1. footpath widening and resurfacing,
  2. upgrade of street furniture and street lighting,
  3. replacement of existing trees with a single specimen tree, and
  4. the removal of 28 no. car parking spaces and resurfacing,
  5. Reconfigured traffic circulation along the R417 comprising the establishment of a one-way system between Leinster Street and Meeting Lane, running in a north to south direction. 
  6. Managed access for servicing and deliveries via restricted access bollards to access road on west side of Square together with establishment of a one-way system, running in a south to north direction and the closure of the local access road in front of the Old Town Hall. 
  7. Sensitive restoration and repositioning of the Maurice Duke of Leinster Drinking Fountain (Protected Structure no. AY022) and the 1798 Memorial;
  8. All necessary services and utility provision and associated site works.

 

In accordance with S.I. 476, 2011, Section 250, Planning and Development (Amendment) (No.3) Regulations, 2011, the Council has carried out a screening and has determined that an Appropriate Assessment is not required.

 

The proposed works are located within an Architectural Conservation Area and involve works to the Maurice Duke of Leinster Drinking Fountain, a Protected Structure (RPS Ref. No. AY022)

 

Plans and particulars of the proposed scheme will be available for inspection or purchase at a fee not exceeding the reasonable cost of making a copy from 17July 2018 to 14 August 2018 during public opening hours, at:

  • The Planning Department Counter, Kildare County Council, at the address below, and
  • Athy Municipal District Office, Rathstewart, Athy, Co. Kildare.

 

Plans and particulars of the proposed development will also be available to view during the period noted above on Kildare County Council’s website at http://kildare.ie/CountyCouncil/PublicConsultations-Part8Schemes/Community/P82018009EmilySquareAthy/

 

Submissions or observations with respect to the proposed development and dealing with the proper planning and sustainable development of the area in which the development would be situated, may be made, in writing, to Mairead Hunt, Senior Executive Officer, Town & Village Rejuvenation, Economic, Community, and Cultural Development, Kildare County Council, at the address below, before 4.30 p.m. on 28 August 2018.
