Irish Business Against Litter award for Kildare town

Kildare County Council welcomes the second place finish this year for Kildare town in the recently announced Irish Business Against Litter National Awards (IBAL).  This is a significant achievement for the Tidy Towns Committee and Kildare County Council’s team who are actively working in the town on a daily basis to maintain the very high standard acknowledged by IBAL.

The achievement of a first and second place finish in two consecutive years is testimony to the commitment of Kildare County Council and the community to maintaining the town at a very high standard of cleanliness. A public sculpture, specially commissioned to acknowledge the achievement of the first place award for Ireland’s cleanest town in 2016, was recently installed on Bride Street, Kildare.

Considerable resources are directed at Kildare Town annually, particularly in the area of bin emptying, litter picking, street sweeping, and weed spraying.  In 2017, the Council invested €500,000 on road resurfacing and footpath repairs.  A comprehensive upgrading of road markings in the town was also completed, in addition to renewed signage, the provision of pedestrian guard rails at the Kildare Town Community School and other public realm improvements formed part of the work programme for the town in 2017.

A spokesman for the Council stated that the current level of services would be maintained in 2018 in addition to other minor civic works and public realm improvements. He also stated that a review of the existing Traffic Management Plan for Kildare town will take place in 2018 in consultation with the Municipal District Members.
