Birds in the school yard
Kildare County Council, in conjunction with Kildare Education Centre, funded a tutor form the Heritage in Schools programme, Mr John Lovatt, to visit 14 schools in 2005, 25 schools in 2006 and 20 schools in 2007 to provide training for the primary school children and their teachers on the identification of birds in the school yard.
John Lovatt, a keen birdwatcher, introduced the children to bird calls and other identifying feature of school yard birds. Each school was supplied with bird tables, feeders, feed, a bird poster and a cd of bird calls.
The teacher and children were also give tips how to make their school more attractive to bids and how to attract them to the school yard.
