Elected Representatives
The Dail (House of Representatives) is elected every 5 years and Maynooth is within the constituency of North Kildare.  The last general election took place on 6 June 1997.  The parties who put forward candidates in the last election were:


The local councillors on Kildare County Council  are elected from 6 regions of Kildare county and Maynooth is within the area known as the Leixlip electoral area. 
 

The Irish electoral system is based on proportional representation (single transferable vote) and you must place your name on the Register of Electors before you are allowed vote in Presidential, Dail or local elections.
