A meeting of the Community Council was held on Monday night, 13th December and the following information may be of interest to Castle Dawson residents:
Thanks to the efforts of Councilor John McGinley, the County Council have agreed to place an order with the ESB to install street lighting outside the estate, starting after Christmas.  He has also got the Council to treat the footpath outside the estate as a priority and to do it separately from the overall development levy spending (a major realignment of the road is  part of their proposals for the area).
The Council is expected to start the installation of traffic lights at the junction between the Rathcoffey road and the main street in the town after Christmas.
The traffic build up on the off ramp of the motorway from Dublin at peak times was mentioned and the Council propose to remove the existing ramp road and build another one joining a large (30 ft) roundabout which will be built in the field opposite Barretts.  This is also to accommodate the increase in traffic expected with the development of the Maynooth Business Park in the nearby area.
Items from the meeting on 8th November 1999:
Work is due to begin on the construction of Bond Bridge in spring 2000 and will take about 1 year to complete.  The County Council have decided to build the new bridge while leaving the old one open.  A new road (called the Meadowbrook link) will connect the Rathcoffey road (R408) to the Straffan Road (R406 - the road to the motorway).  There will be a roundabout build on the Straffan road at the intersection.
Approximately £1 million has been allocated to the realignment of the Rathcoffey road between Bond Bridge and the motorway fly-over.  Work should have started on the footpaths and public lighting but has not.  Councilor John McGinley stated that he expected this to start in the near future, but the priority at the moment is Bond Bridge.
