Road Safety Promotion
Athy Town Council co-operates with Kildare County Council as a promoter of road safety. This is a fundamental consideration in all road works.
The Council employs school wardens in selected locations and it encourages the establishment of junior school warden schemes. It also co-operates with local working groups to co-ordinate the activities of agencies and other bodies involved in this area; (gardaí, teachers, etc.).
The County Council's Road Safety Officer participates in the promotion of road safety through instruction, advertising, media campaigns, etc. with the National Safety Council.
School Wardens
The School Warden Service is designed to provide safe crossing facilities for children in the vicinity of primary schools in provincial towns and villages and smaller cities.
The local authority is responsible for the introduction and operation of schemes, with the co-operation of the Gardai, school management boards, teachers, parents and children.
