Waste Water Treatment
Athy Town Council has a Waste Water Treatment Plant located on the Fortbarrington Road, Ardrew, Athy. The plant was opened in June, 1996 and received 85% capital funding from the EU. The plant treats the waste water from Athy town before discharging to the river Barrow. Waste water includes:
- Waste from private houses – laundry, kitchen, toilet, bathroom etc.
- Waste similar to the above from hospital, hotels, pubs and restaurants
- Waste waters from factories according to specifications given under discharge licences.
The Treatment Works have been designed on the basis of a total
population equivalent of 22,500.
