The town is a terminal point for a branch of the Grand Canal, which along with the River Barrow offers ideal opportunities for fishing, canoeing and pleasure boat cruising. County Kildare is the centre of the horse breeding and training industry in Ireland. Most of the major stud farms and training establishments are located in the County and there are excellent opportunities for hunting, racegoing and riding. There are also serveral Golf clubs in Athy and its environs along with a Par 3 Golf Course where members can avail of the golf course and facilities. Athy has several places to eat out for both lunchtime hours and evening time such as Bradbury's, J-1, Kilkea Golf Club, The Castle Inn and The Leinster Arms. There are also a number of fast food restaurants such as Denardi's and Super Macs. The Lotus Chinese Restaurant, the Royal Garden Cantonese Restaurant and Palki Indian Restaurant offers menus with non European dishes.
