There will be a St. Patrick's Day Parade on March 17 th. in Athy. It is being organised by The Chamber of Commerce and will include all Clubs, Schools and Associations in the Town. It will be a real People's Parade. Transition Year Students have been asked to put on their own specially devised Pageants representing their schools for the occasion. The Parade will be preceded by a display of antique cars by Kildare Car Club.
During the Festival there will be a French Market in the Back Square featuring French Cheeses, Confectionery, Breads, Sweets, Hand –Made Chocolates, Pates – in fact all the French Fare. Next to that will be a Craft Marquee featuring locally made Crafts and produce.
At present local Schools are hotting up the Copper Hunt. Student is asking you to clear out all your old and new coppers and they will collect them in their School's Copper Bin. There is a prize for the School that collects most Coppers.
Saturday will be the big day when the Twinning Charter will be signed by Athy Town Council Cathaoirleach, Noel Scully and The Mayor of Grandvilliers in the centre of Emily Square at 5.00 o'clock.
Sunday will be the ‘Day of the River'. The full programme will be announced next week
