Winners of the DUBAI DUTY FREE 150th Irish Derby School’s Art competition have been announced.

Winners of the DUBAI DUTY FREE 150th Irish Derby School’s Art competition have been announced.

To coincide with the 150th running of the Irish Derby, The Curragh Racecourse, Kildare Library & Arts Service and Riverbank Arts Centre ran a school’s arts competition aimed at both primary and secondary school students in County Kildare.

Judges included: Artist Chara Nagle, illustrator Dave Butler, Eoghan Doyle, Assistant County Arts Officer, Celine Broughal, Kildare Library & Arts Service and Evan Arkwright, Commercial Manager of the Curragh Racecourse.

The winners are:

Primary School: Junior Infants – 3rd Class

1st place – Aaron Phelan, 3rd Class. St. Joseph’s BNS Kilcock. 

2nd place – Leah Malone, 1st Class. Scoil an Linbh Íosa, Prosperous.

3rd place – Anna White, 2nd Class. Scoil Bhríde, Athgarvan.

 

Runners up.

Ella M, 1st class. Athgarvan

Lorna Browne, 2nd Class. Scoil Bhríde, Athgarvan

Hannah Cassidy, 2nd Class. Scoil an Linbh Íosa, Prosperous

Shauna W, 3rd Class. Primrose Hill NS, Celbridge.

Darcy O’Neill, Junior Infants. Scoil Bhríde, Athgarvan

Dylan Gill, 3rd Class. St. Joseph’s BNS, Kilcock

1st place will receive a top of the range art sets plus a €100 voucher. There will also be prizes for 2nd and 3rd as well as the 7 runners-up.

1st place will also win a class prize consisting of: A workshop with leading illustrator Dave Butler, together with a €500 voucher for art supplies and a variety of books for their school library.

 

Primary School: 3rd – 6th Class.

Secondary School competition*

1st Place – Sinead Sexton, Newbridge College

2nd Place – Tilly Morris. Newbridge College.

4th Place – Ellen Ayerst. Newbridge College.

1st place will receive a top of the range arts set plus a voucher for €250. 2nd, 3rd and 4th will also receive a €50 voucher

As part of the prize, the class of the overall winner will enjoy a workshop with leading artist Cara Nagle together with a €500 voucher for art supplies and a variety of books for their school library

*Newbridge College were the only Secondary School to enter the competition.

Eoghan Doyle, Kildare Assistant County Arts Officer said ‘It was a very difficult process to choose a winner as the standard was so high across the board. It’s great to see the quality of art being produced in schools throughout the County. Congratulations to all the winners and runners up.’

All winning entries will be exhibited in Riverbank Arts Centre throughout June prior to the prizes for the winning entries being presented at the Curragh during the Irish Derby Festival. The Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby Festival takes place at the Curragh from 26th to 28th June with the  DUBAI DUTY FREE 150th Irish Derby the highlight of the weekend on Saturday 27th June.

Details of prize giving will be circulated to the successful schools in the coming weeks
