Born in Gorey, Co. Wexford in 1972 Paul Doran studied at the National College of Art and Design in Dublin gaining a BA in Fine Art, Painting in 1997, an HDip in 1998 and an MA in Fine Art in 2001. He has many solo shows across Ireland in addition to participating in various group shows across the world, including exhibitions in London, Paris, Madrid and New York.

These three untitled paintings by Paul Doran are all abstract works. In all three works the paint is oil paint applied thickly in a style called “impasto”. This way of applying the paint gives the finished work a three-dimensional quality. It is a style that was made popular by Vincent Van Gogh and used by American Abstract Expressionist painters such as Willem De Kooning.
