Kildare 22nd … a good idea
At this time of the year in 2001, what seemed like a good idea came as a suggestion to the newly formed Parents Association at Staplestown N.S. i.e. to “set up scouts” as an after school activity. A sub-group of the association ran with the idea and through the schools of the parish established that there was a high level of interest across the community for such an activity.

The following six months was a time of great effort, learning and training to commence enrollment for the new group on 15th December 2001 with the founding team of  Vincent Waters, Elaine Kane, Fidelma Palmer, Phyllis Waters, William Kane, Teresa Noone, Gerd Benndorf , Maureen Barron,
St Kevin’s GAA as Patron and Fr. Cantillon as Chaplin.

22nd Kildare Scout Group opened its doors for business for the first time on 15th January 2002 having received its charter from Chief Scout Mr. Peter Dixon. There were 45 junior members (24 Beavers, 21 Cubs) and a growing waiting list. In 2004 a Scout Section was started to provide a progression path for juniors wishing to continue in scouting after Cubs. Over the years 22nd Kildare has grown to have a strong cohort of leaders and a rolling average of 70 junior members plus a waiting list.
